Events: Hiking

Length: 12 miles
Elevation Gain: 2400 feet

This strenuous hike along and beside the ridgeline of Massanutten Mountain in the George Washington National Forest features an expansive view to the west of New Market, VA from the South Massanutten Trail. The 12-mile circuit hike with approximately 2400 feet of elevation gain is for experienced hikers only. Other than the one viewpoint, the hike is almost entirely in the woods and features pools and small waterfalls along the Browns Hollow Trail. Bring plenty of water, lunch, bug spray and about $20 for transportation and trip fees. We will stop at a Sheetz along the way to the trailhead, where you can buy made-to-order sandwiches for lunch. The drive to the trailhead will take about 2 hours and the hike itself should take about 6 hours. We likely will get back to the East Falls Church Metro station between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m. Meet at 8:30 a.m. at the East Falls Church Metro Kiss & Ride lot.
