Events: Hiking Winter

Join us on on this Martin Luther King Day circuit hike to one of the highest waterfalls in the state of Virginia. As this is a winter hike and we have been “enjoying” record rainfall, expect muddy trails, but also beautiful views and the lovely 93 foot Overall Run Falls to offset our efforts. This 8.5 mile hike will have about 3400 ft of elevation, so be in good aerobic shape as most of this height is encountered in a three mile stretch near the beginning of the hike. This hike is rated strenuous to very strenuous. Adding to the challenge will be a number of stream crossings, so bring a pair of dry sox and a pair of street shoes for in the car. You have been forewarned. Do pack a lunch (for our break near the top of Overall Run Falls), 2-3 liters of water and layered winter wear. I will give weather updates as the hike date approaches. The hike will be postponed or cancelled if there is significant snow, which may block access to the trailhead.

We meet at 8:30 in the East Falls Church Metro Kiss and Ride lot. For last minute needs, expect our usual Sheetz stop on the way and with a consensus, we can stop for dinner on the return. Cost for this outing should be about $20 including carpool and the $2 Adventuring fee, plus more for dinner. (This hike is based on the Overall Run/Beecher Ridge hike on Please note that you will be removed from the sign-up list if you do not provide a number to reach you on the morning of the hike.
