Events: Hiking Winter

(Postponed from February 17.) because of bad weather.) This year's wintertime visit to Gettysburg, co-sponsored with the Chrysalis Arts & Culture Group of Washington, will focus on the southern half of the battlefield, a maelstrom of destruction on July 2, 1863 that nearly ended with a Rebel victory. Our itinerary will cover such dramatic spots as Big and Little Round Top, Devils Den, the Slaughter Pen, the Wheatfield, Stony Hill, the Peach Orchard, and Cemetery Ridge. Our route should not be more than 6 miles long, mostly over rolling and muddy terrain. Bring beverages, lunch (there will be a Sheetz pit stop), sturdy boots, layered clothing and about $12 for transportation and trip fees. We will have dinner in town before returning to the DC area. We will carpool at 9:30 a.m. from the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro Station.
